Astoria Oregon, Fort Clatsop - Lewis and Clark wintering place

Dad has always wanted to visit Fort Clatsop - near Astoria, Oregon - just over the river from Washington...So we did!  This is where the Lewis and Clark Expedition wintered over - it was fascinating.  No remains of the original but it is reconstructed in the exact place.
Pretty small - but cool...the Indians were friendly and helpful.
Notice the 'guide' in costume - he was very knowledgeable - we learned a lot.
 Those are really 'long' rifles!
The real reason Lewis and Clark were successful - a teenage mother!
This was an amazing statue - loved the Newfoundland dog - Seamon - part of the expedition.
The international flavor of the country at the time.
Dad loved the old growth timber.
This is where they lived for months - at least they had game and fish to eat!
