We had a delayed flight in Chicago on our way home from North Carolina. Since we're getting to Salt Lake at midnight - we took Polly and Chris up on their nice offer of another overnight stay. Since we weren't in a hurry to get back home we stopped in Murray and saw Aunt Afton, and in Bountiful to see Janice and Wayne - we are blessed with wonderful extended family members.
It was really fun to sit and talk for a little bit. Afton has a great granddaughter and her new husband living in the downstairs apartment when Ben and Em, and Dan and Lindsey lived. The granddaughter begged her to let her have a kitten - indoors...she relented. It's name is Dakota and it sneaks upstairs like Em's boys used to!
Janice and Wayne invited us to lunch at Olive Garden - umm Yes! It was fun to catch up with their family. David and Stacey live outside of Ely, NV. David's practice continues to grow ...there are 8 or so working gold mines in the area - who knew! Janice and Wayne had stopped in Lehi and seen Uncle Rex. He has sold his land for 125,000 an acre - a million dollars in all! He told them when his mink ranch was at it's peak he had 4,000 mother mink. They would take them to Europe and the bidders always said his were the highest quality. His children are not being very nice to one another about all the wealth. He bought a small house for his unmarried son - and one of the girls said: You are spending my money. He said: No I'm spending my money! So we'll just stay happy and loving with one another and be blessed to not have big money!
This is a framed picture on Janice and Wayne's wall - your Dad was so cute! (and still is!)
Harold was 5, Tom 9, Janice 11 - and pretty Grandma Phyllis!
The 'story' in the newspaper.
May 3, 1947.
What wonderful people we are related to - isn't Dad handsome?
Uncle Wayne is the one on the far left - the youngest of all his brothers and sisters. One of his sister's died and at the funeral last year - the surviving siblings were just standing around when someone suggested they take a picture. They just got together and it was in the same order as years earlier! Wayne said two of these in the picture have now 'passed'! Wayne will be 80 years old this July - yikes!
Wayne would love to come to Jennie and Jason's and drive the 'antique' tractor they have. He said it was his choice on the ranch - it ran faster than the John Deere's! One time they loaded their hunting gear in it and Wayne drove it up to the hunting camp - arriving before the others in their cars! I told him Jennie and Jason would love to have them come for a visit. They just might with Brian - Alan's oldest - in Richmond, VA.
